Twenty-two-year-old Harry Truman gave up his $100 a month bank salary to go work on the family farm in 1906. Tours of the Farm Home are first come, first served. Rangers are at the Farm on Fridays and Saturdays, starting May 5, 2023, until October 21, 2023, to explain to you the significance of the Farm. Cell phone tours of the grounds are available. The grounds of the Truman Farm in Grandview, Missouri, are open every day of the year, sunrise to sunset. The Truman farmhouse was built in 1894 and was originally the center of a 600-acre working farm. We recommend bug and tick spray if you wish to explore the grounds. (The staircase is steep, with no lighting.) We are working to develop an alternative for this experience. The kitchen and dining room areas are currently not visited because of a lead paint issue the park is working on mitigating.įor safety reasons, the Harry Truman bedroom is closed to the public. One portable toilet is available while the Home is open seasonally. There are no permanent bathrooms at the Farm Home. There is parking beside the Farm Home, including one accessible parking space.
